Club history
Since many years big pumpkins can be found in Kasterlee. We call them Giant Pumpkins.
It all started in the year 1990, when the first pumpkin market was organized. Actually the first pumpkin market was a market for farmers with a weigh-off for pumpkins. The first price for the weigh-off was a wheelbarrow. Because Frans Boonen (currently also member of the club) needed a new wheelbarrow, he decided to try to grow a big pumpkin. After several months he took his pumpkin to the first weigh-off. Some friends needed to help to carry the pumpkin, so probably this was already a good sign. The result was a pumpkin of 60kg and Frans won the wheelbarrow. Now others started to grow big pumpkins in Kasterlee too.
